Sudurpashchim Province Karate
Federation (SPKF) is the provincial governing body of karate sport in the
Sudurpashchim Province of Nepal under Nepal Karate Federation(NKF) which is affiliated
to World Karate Federation(WKF), Asian Karate Federation(AKF), South Asian
Karate Federation(SAKF) and recognized by Nepal Olympic Committee(NOC). The
main aim of SPKF is to develop, regulate and popularize the wonderful martial
art sport- KARATE within the province and support the players to represent
their province not only in national tournaments but also in an international
arena. The federation is also recognized by Sudurpashchim Province Sports
Council, the governing body of sports under The Ministry of Social Development
of Sudurpashchim Province Government.
The headquarters of SPKF is
located in the Provincial Sports Stadium in Dhangadhi. Dhangadhi is the capital
and the largest city of the province. SPKF represents in all nine districts of
the province through respective district karate federation.
Mr. Trilokaya Nath Pandey, a
former player, coach and a referee of karate is leading the federation as
President. He is supported by Mr. Dilliraj Subedi and Mr. Hikmat Bhandari as
Vice Presidents, Mr. Bahadur Singh Odd as Secretary, Ms. Uma Mahato as Treasurer,
Mr. Pushp Raj Bhatta and Mr. Binod Chand as deputy secretary and Mr. Narendra
Karki as Deputy Treasurer. The other board members are Mr. Bijay Singh Airi,
Ms. Urmila Airi, Mr. Om Prakash Pant, Mr. Mohan S.K., Ms. Hema Bhatta, Mr.
Kiran Bohara, Mr. Prabhav Bhandari, Mr. Dinesh Rawal(Mandel), Mr. Nanda Krishna
Jaishi.
SPKF conducts its official
tournament once a year. It also organizes province referee seminars and coach
seminars. The federation has a province referee commission consists of many six
international and seven national referees who give their best to organize
tournaments fairly. The referee commission is headed by Omkar Giri (AKF, KUMITE
GUDGE-B).
Mr. Makendra Bahadur Singh, the
medalist of 8th South Asian Games-1999 and the only participant of
World Kick-Boxing Championship from the province, is representing the province
as a Vice- President and Mr. Gajendra Sawod, former international karate player
and the Executive Vice- President of Province Youth Council of Sudurpashchim
Province under Sudurpashchim Province Government, is serving as a Board Member
in Nepal Karate Federation. Likewise, Mr. Prakash Kumar Chand (AKF, KUMITE
REFEREE-B) represents the SPKF in the National Referee Commission of Nepal
Karate Federation as a Commission Member.
The sport of karate is spread all
over the Sudurpashchim Province in the leadership of Late Sensei Kishor Hamal
who was inspired by the founder of karate in Nepal Shihan Thaneshwor Rai and
founder President of Nepal Karate Federation Shihan Dhawa Gurung.
This province has produced many
champion players in the past who won the medals for Nepal in many international
arenas. Among them, Ms. Manisha Kumari Bohara and Ms. Astha Luhar are the
current South Asian champions of their age/weight categories. Both of them have
won gold medals in 9th South Asian Karate Championships organized by
South Asian Karate Federation in Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2025. Ms. Bohara has also
won the gold medal in 8th South Asian Karate Championships held in
Bhutan in 2024 and she created the history by winning a bronze medal in 23rd
Asian Cadet, Junior and U-21 Karate Championships organized by Asian Karate
Federation in China.
